RD53 is the entry-level rotary actuator designed for competitive and large scale change-over installations. It is the best alternative to handwheels, position indicators and such manual devices, especially in multi-axis systems and where small-batches, one-off items, just-in-time production and acceleration of cycle times are a must.
RD53 offers the “all-in-one” configuration advantage because it fully integrates motor, encoder and controller in a single package. There is no need for additional features.
It encompasses a 31 W brushless motor, a 1:50 gearbox and a real 18-bit multiturn encoder. The optical encoder is mounted on the output axis, so it cannot be affected by possible backlash errors of mechanics. The nominal torque is 5 Nm, starting torque 12 Nm.
At the core of RD53 is the sophisticated controller developed by Lika. Two cascade control loop systems ensure perfect motion control: the position loop cycle performed at every 1 ms and the current loop cycle performed at every 200 µs. Controls on overtemperature, overcurrent, undervoltage and bus communication failure increase the operational safety.
The most common industrial network protocols are implemented: Profibus-DP, CANopen DS301 and Modbus RS485.
An integrated electromagnetic power off brake (permanent magnet) is designed to activate as soon as the motor comes to a stop and safely protects from uncontrolled movements, especially in mobile stops and vertical mounting installations and axes. It is capable of a 20 Nm holding torque.
RD53 is compact and provides the user with considerable simplification in design and ease of integration. The hollow shaft with collar makes it easy and fast to mount the unit, even in tight space. It can be used in a wide range of applications in any industrial sector and is suitable to drive positioning and auxiliary axes such as in mould changers, mobile stops, tools changers, filling machines, suction cups motion units, spindle positioning devices, conveyors and packaging & woodworking machineries, among others. At any rate a single command provides multiple precise adjustments with the greatest quickness, precision and repeatability, in just one cycle.
