The need for integration of components with different communication standards and interfaces has recently grown and led both problems and costs to a significant increase. IF50 is among the latest additions to Lika's signal converters portfolio. This unit is designed to convert incremental digital signals into either analogue signals (current or voltage) or serial RS-232/RS-485 data format. A wide range of incremental encoders and digital sensors is applicable: quadrature encoders with HTL level output (10-30VDC) and PNP, NPN, Push-Pull or Namur characteristics, using A and B outputs with 90° displacement; single channel impulse sources such as proximity switches or photocells providing HTL level at PNP or NPN or Namur characteristics; TTL/RS-422 quadrature encoders with AB and /AB output lines; symmetric single channel sources with TTL/RS-422 output providing differential signal (i.e. A and /A); asymmetric single channel sources with TTL level (without inverted signal, i.e. A only). The unit will then deliver a current or voltage analogue signal proportional to the incremental counting. The analogue current signal range is 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA; while the analogue voltage signal range is -10 to +10 V and 0 to 10 V. The resolution is 14 bits, thus current output operates in 2.5 microA steps while voltage output operates in 1.25 mV steps. Fast counting-frequency is up to 1 MHz.
IF50 converter is equipped with DIL switches for a basic configuration of the unit and further features a serial RS-232/RS-485 interface (9-pin Sub-D connector) for enhanced bi-directional communication using the software tool supplied for free. It allows both to convert incremental digital signals to serial format and further to improve the unit performance and operating flexibility through a full range of configuration settings regarding the specific unit features, the analogue characteristics and the serial port; it further provides diagnostic info. Two frontal LEDs are intended to help the user during commissioning or diagnostic events. Among the noteworthy benefits: the conversion of the counting information into any engineering unit; the free scaling of the analogue output using the TEACH-IN procedure (anyway this can be easily done via DIL switches without interfacing the unit); the A/B signal combination as a sum (A+B) or a difference (A-B) of the supplied signals; the ROUND LOOP function to replace the real counting value with a repeating cycle count; the programmable LINEARISATION feature which allows the user both to correct precision errors of the sensor thus rectifying the analogue signal and to convert a linear counting to a non-linear analogue output.
IF50 converter comes in a compact and sturdy plastic housing with DIN rail mounting and can quickly snap onto a DIN rail with built-in DIN rail clips that require no additional brackets or supports. Electrical connection is through 12 screw terminals while power supply is 18-30 VDC. An auxiliary 5.5 V output is further provided to supply an external unit.
